About
What is this all about?

DMLcentral.net is the online presence for the Digital Media and Learning Research Hub located at the systemwide University of California Humanities Research Institute and hosted at the UC Irvine campus. We think digital media practices are fundamentally reshaping society in far-reaching ways, especially in how people all around the world are learning and connecting with one another.
Across the globe, an ever-expanding number of researchers, policy-makers, practitioners, industry, scholars and youth are exploring the boundaries and possibilities of digital media and the networked world of the twenty-first century.
At DMLcentral.net, we want to do all we can to fuel that exploration - to enable break-through collaborations and evoke illuminating conversations that lead to innovations in learning and public participation.
What we do
We are passionate about knowledge sharing, research and networking, and we work in partnership with others to:
provide an online destination point for the spread of knowledge, insights, data, practices, thought leadership, research results, ongoing projects and dialogue
identify and track paradigm-shifting themes, especially those related to youth, technology, media and society
Who we are
Supported by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation as part of its Digital Media and Learning portfolio, the Digital Media and Learning Hub is a major initiative of the University of California Humanities Research Institute. Both the UC-wide Humanities Research Institute and the Research Hub are based at the UC Irvine campus.
The MacArthur Foundation launched its five-year Digital Media and Learning initiative in 2006 to help determine how digital technologies are changing the way people, especially young people, learn, play, socialize, and participate in civic life. Answers are critical to developing educational and other social institutions that can meet the needs of this and future generations.
The Digital Media and Learning initiative is marshaling what is already known about the field and seeding innovation for continued growth. Initial grants have supported research projects, design studies, pilot programs, and responses to policy implications.
The MacArthur Foundation is supporting the Digital Media and Learning Hub and this web site as part of its Digital Media and Learning initiative.
