Web Producer

Application Deadline: July 10, 2011

The Digital Media and Learning Hub is a group of scholars and practitioners located at the University of California at Irvine. We think digital media practices are fundamentally reshaping society in far-reaching ways, especially in how people all around the world are learning and connecting with one another. We are passionate about knowledge sharing, research and networking, and we are seeking an innovative technologist who shares those passions.

The web producer is expected to develop requirements in consultation with other members of the community, to evaluate and deploy solutions, and to document, manage, and produce outstanding web experiences. We need someone who has experience working in small, highly dynamic teams, and who can produce professional, inspiring, innovative sites that are also accessible, secure, and cost-effective.  The ideal candidates will be able to implement a feature or debug a problem effectively, but at the same time be aware of the most recent innovations in social computing and be able to think strategically and creatively about the best ways to engage our community.

Candidates should provide a portfolio of work that demonstrates familiarity with social media platforms, the ability to create standards-compliant code, and the effective incorporation of appropriate and innovative interactive experiences.

Experience leading small teams in a fast paced development cycle is essential, including clearly documenting project development and working with both internal and external developers. The ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of both non-technical and technical members of the community is vital.

Interested candidates should include with their online application a cover letter explaining their interest and outlining their particular skills and strengths, a resume, and links to their website portfolio with a brief summary of their approach and role in each website’s design, development, and implementation.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Required:
* 7+ Years experience in developing interactive sites and applications for the web using open technologies and platforms
* 3+ years experience in leading web development
* Ability and willingness to engage, grow, and work collaboratively with a team of dedicated and highly motivated people in an engaging work environment

* Experience working with MacOSX and Linux servers
* Demonstrated knowledge of information architecture and search engine optimization

* Be able to thrive under deadline pressure and in an entrepreneurial, start-up environment
* Have strong oral and written communication skills
* Demonstrate an ability to thrive in an interdisciplinary team environment
* Demonstrate an ability to communicate technical requirements to both technical and non-technical colleagues and to manage technical projects

Desired:
* UI development experience in jQuery or other JavaScript frameworks.
